At the American Accounting Association’s Annual Meeting in August 2020, the CAQ organized two panel sessions – one on the impact that COVID-19 has had on accounting and auditing since March of 2020, and the other on how universities and faculty can leverage a documentary to highlight the opportunities that await students who major in accounting.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created many new uncertainties for global capital markets. Most companies transitioned to an entirely remote workforce, which has presented numerous challenges for public companies, their auditors, and the regulators. CAQ’s Executive Director led a discussion with representatives from the SEC and PCAOB as well as two of the largest public accounting firms about what steps were taken in response to the pandemic to ensure the continued operation of the US capital markets.

CAQ Panel: Making it Balance and Promoting the Value of the Accounting Degree

It can be a challenge to make students aware of the value of a degree in accounting. A recent PBS documentary produced by Roadtrip Nation, and fueled by the Center for Audit Quality, highlights interviews with several leaders in different careers that began with an accounting degree. This panel will provide insights into how faculty, administrators, and college career centers can leverage the documentary, related interviews, and career profiles to showcase where an accounting degree can lead students and appeal to their desire to enter into a purpose driven career.
