Lisa Schneider is the Director of Policy and Corporate Governance for the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer. In this position, she is responsible for overseeing the Department’s initiatives on issues such as majority voting for directors, increased access to the proxy, and better disclosure of executive compensation. Following scandals like Enron and WorldCom, institutional investors began taking pro-active steps to ensure corporate responsibility and responsiveness to shareholders. The North Carolina pension fund, with over $73 billion in assets under management, has a very active corporate governance program. Ms. Schneider received her law degree from Tulane University and has a special certificate in environmental law. Before joining the Treasurer’s office, she was an Assistant Attorney General with the North Carolina Department of Justice. |
