CAQ Executive Director and Director of Research Receive AAA Auditing Section Award

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Washington, D.C – At its 2014 Midyear Meeting and Doctoral Consortiumthe Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA) bestowed the Special Award of Merit to the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ), and to its Executive Director Cindy Fornelli and Director of Research Margot Cella.

The Auditing Section of the AAA confers a number of awards annually, including the Outstanding Educator Award, the Notable Contributions to the Auditing Literature Award, and the Distinguished Service Award. From time to time, the Auditing Section Executive Committee confers the Special Award of Merit to individuals and institutions who have had a singular impact on the Auditing Section and its members. In the past decade, only one other individual has received a Special Award of Merit.

“There is no doubt the Section and all of its members have significantly benefitted from all of the CAQ’s initiatives and efforts, and Cindy and Margot have been champions for the Section,” said AAA Auditing Section Past President Roger Martin in presenting the awards.

“The CAQ values its relationship with the AAA Auditing Section and the academic community,” said Fornelli. “Margot and I are truly honored to be recognized by such an esteemed organization that does so much to shape the future of accounting and auditing.”

The CAQ actively engages with the academic community through various initiatives and activities. These include the Center’s support of independent research through its Research Advisory Board grant program, and its annual symposium, which brings together practice leaders and audit research scholars and students. The CAQ also produces tools and resources that can be used in the classroom to educate the next generation of auditors.

The CAQ partners with the AAA Auditing Section, notably through the Access to Audit Personnel Program. The two organizations established the joint program in 2013 to generate research on issues that are relevant to audit practice, while providing doctoral students and those professors seeking tenure with access to audit firm personnel to complete the research study protocols.
